The Young People's Address is a way for young people to help United Methodist ministries and leaders in the Pacific Northwest to understand the needs, passions and interests of emerging generations.
For this year's young people's address we are looking for people who have oral and/or video production gifts as we seek to gather the voices of young people outside of our churches. For 2010-2010 School Year
Officer Applications Due April 5, 2010 District Representative Applications Due June 7, 2010
The Conference Council on Youth Ministries is a strong advocate and example of youth leadership in our Annual Conference. It is the group that is responsible for planning Senior High CONVO and the Middle School/Jr. High Retreats, among other things. This body elects officers: President, Vice-President, and Secretary at its Spring meeting in April.
Other members include two youth from each district and 1 adult from each district. There is also a youth who is the Chair of the Senior High ministries, a Chair of the Junior High/Middle School ministries, and a Chair of the Empowering Youth team. Other members of the CCOYM make up the membership of these teams. The selection of new District Representatives (as needed) will occur just prior to Annual Conference in June.
There are forms available (CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD) for youth wishing to run for office or wishing to let their District know of their willingness to serve as a District Representative on the CCOYM Team.

Annual Conference · June 17-20, 2010 · University of Puget Sound, Tacoma, Washington
Annual Conference 2010 will be held at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington from June 17-20. Because our Conference highly values the gifts and voices of young people, there are several ways youth and young adults are invited to participate in Annual Conference. Here are a few of those ways:
Annual Conference Pages Pages (grades 8-12 at the time of their application) are those who help the voting members at Annual Conference by producing and delivering information to delegates, helping with voting, etc. Pages work a lot but there are opportunities for fellowship in the evening and it also an excellent way to learn more about the United Methodist Church! Your housing and expenses are paid for by the Conference. We typically can accept applications for Pages through the end of May, or until we have 16 pages. CLICK HERE for the application.
We also are in need of adults to help coordinate and chaperone youth pages and delegates. If you would like to be one of these amazing individuals, please contact Patrick, 206.304.9284 ·

Youth & Young Adult Voting Members of Annual Conference Each District in the Conference has two youth and young adult voting members (delegates) to Annual Conference, which is the yearly decision making meeting for the Pacific Northwest Conference of the United Methodist church. The Cabinet will be reviewing applications on Tuesday, March 30 so please have these submitted to the Conference Office no later than March 29. Young Adults need to be between the ages of 18-30. Youth must currently be in grades 7-12.
If you care deeply about the future of our church, consider serving as a voting member of Annual Conference. Your housing and expenses are paid by your District and your travel expenses are paid for by the Conference if you are chosen to serve in this capacity. Delegate Applications are due to the Conference Office by March 29, 2010. Decisions will be made in consultation with each areas District Superintendent on March 30. CLICK HERE for the application. |
Memorial Day Weekend • May 29-31, 2010 • University of Puget Sound
CONVO is the biggest youth event of the year for our Annual Conference. Hundreds of Senior High aged Youth (grades 8-12) and adult youth workers will gather for three days of music, prayer, fun, learning, and growth. We hope that both youth and adults will leave this event feeling recharged and better equiped to live as passionate disciples of Jesus Christ. We are very excited to invite you to another year of CONVO!
The Bishop’s CONVOcation for High School students was first held in the Pacific Northwest Conference in 1976. This makes CONVO 2010 the 35th installment in a long line of largely successful events. We hope this year’s incarnation will be worthy of this legacy of excellent events. CONVO is planned annually by an excellent team of youth and supportive adults who are passionate about and dedicated to making this the best event it can be. This year is no exception.
Registration materials are available for download below. CONVO scholarships are available thru the Conference Office (these are included in the registration packet). Adult leaders for CONVO and all Conference Events must have a current National background check on file in the Conference Office and be at least 4 years older than the oldest youth attending the event.
The CONVO theme this year is “Anatomy of a Christian.” Together, we will explore how Christians are called to be thinking believers who experience God passionately, and live out their faith radically. We are very excited to welcome Mark Yaconelli as our speaker this year. Mark, a respected expert and author on youth spirituality, is a gifted, engaging speaker who will connect with youth and adults alike. You can learn more about everything that is happening in the linked materials below!
Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help you or your group as they plan to attend CONVO this year.
